D-Word Series Part 48: Pride

Play for the Audio Version

I would venture to guess that somebody, maybe not now but someday.... Probably a spouse will 1 day end up reading this, just at the perfect moment.Do you have a spouse that has a really bad problem with pride? Maybe, you don't even like to think about the subject because you, yourself would begin to imagine your own face when you think about pride.

Are you an overly prideful human being? And, even a spouse too at that.
That is the question!

I remember once reading this. "Marriage has but one enemy—pride. It decays a marriage from the inside out. Where pride resides, intimacy cannot be found. True connection cannot be formed.

Totally makes sense, what spouse can feel intimacy with another spouse when a bad case of pride is there? Who out there reading or listening to THIS agrees with what they just read or heard?

Pride is out there folks. And, it can easily kill or heavily destroy your marriage. Just for the sake of the series, let me be a bit more blunt. This goes out to you Husbands and you fellow Wives. Be careful, stay far away and do not welcome "pride" into your marriage.

Let me throw something out there. Maybe in time this may affect your marriage. We may not claim to be God, but we act like one at the house.
We may not see ourselves as better than everyone, but we do see ourselves as better than some.  Maybe you're a husband thinking you're better than your wife machinery maybe you are you wife thinking you're better than your husband? If so stop thinking like that!

Pride just may end up hurting your spouse. So, much so I wonder what the ending result will be. Could it be a divorce? I think the point is to try not to find out.

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

One's pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.

The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.

But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished.

In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, “There is no God.”

Before destruction a man's heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.

For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world.

By insolence comes nothing but strife, but with those who take advice is wisdom.

Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.

For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor.

Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.

Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

Haughty eyes and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, are sin
