Idols Part 3: A Form Of Idolatry

In yesterdays writing I wrote about choosing to do other things in lieu of what you may feel God is putting in your heart. That really is you participating in the act of idolatry. For the writing for today, I wanted to share my thoughts of another form of idolatry, you guys may not have thought of.

I think nowadays, we don't really see idolatry as bowing down to carved images. I mean it still is but it's closer to home. Let me explain.

Okay, yesterday I was saying if one chooses to love something more than God, then they would be committing idolatry.  Let's think about something.  Isn't the core now really about following that which is within ourselves.  We would rather choose to do what we want and choose to honor the wishes of ourselves.

We have something called the god of self. I'm sure you can fill in the blank of what that would entail. But, all I'm saying is, that is the core the fact that it is about honoring and respectingyourself.

Some of us are just so darn materialistic. And I put myself in that category sometimes as well. We want things, and then when we get them we want something more because we're not fully satisfied. Why is that? An example would be you just got a new job but yeah you like the job and stuff but you want another job because it will give you more money. See what I mean never satisfied.

Here's a thought. Please remember the Lord is very smart. He knows exactly what you need, what you can handle, how to comfort you, etc. Do you guys believe that? If you do, then stop idolizing your self and yourselves' needs.

You guys see what I am saying? There is a form of idolatry centralizing on yourself being the 'idol" Friends, God knows we're never going to be happy if we solely just indulge on the material things of life. We need to be careful because we don't want to fall into Satan's trap of making us focus on building up our egos and concentrate on pride.

Encouraging thought of the day:

When we love our God and others there will be no room for adultery.
