I confess I find myself being extra needy and exerting more effort to reach farther for God's hand when I am in excruciating pain and realize I need His help. Does that happen with you too? Sound familiar? When the waters are smooth sailing, how we forget about who made it smooth right? We forget why we are in the place we are in right now. If we're in a bad place, maybe we blame God? If we are in a good place, maybe we don't acknowledge God or maybe we do? I really cannot make that distinction,.... When life is going good, we forget the reason why and don't stop to realize why right? Yet, when life is going bad we suddenly find ourselves needing help and perhaps, we find ourselves praying for God to help! I know I do!
When I was in college, life was definitely good! I had my group of friends, an awesome boyfriend, great grades in school, a great dorm life. I could go on and on. But, I was missing one thing. My relationship with God was plummeting lower and lower. See, life was going good and I forgot about God. But, after some time my "good life" suddenly had a thorn piercing it. I was diagnosed with a life long disease that damaged many of my normal everyday activities that lived in the "good life"."
You better believe there was a reunion filled with much discussion good and bad with God. I don't know the mind of Christ but I can only guess what his thoughts are. And, I do know that when I was living the "good life" I hardly talked with God. Now, we have an everyday verbal connection from me and God may choose to respond by the reading of His word or other devotionals, by implanting His wisdom through other people, or, maybe just by speaking to my heart. I would say the relationship he wants with all his children was rekindled with me. Thank God for waking me up right? We gotta remember that a good or bad life is temporary. So, shouldn't we focus on what's eternal?
