Misuse

Yesterday, was mine and Joe's boneversary. Let me explain. Me and Joe in our dating of 9 years wore Purity rings. That meant we were going to abstain from sex until our pastoral marriage. Don't get me wrong. It wasn't easy. But, with God's help we were able to give our Purity Rings to our parents 8 months later after our court marriage! We actually really got married September. But the big shebang was 9 years and some months yesterday. We got married in front of a judge then in front of a pastor. We said vows to each other that came from our heart. We didn't say I swear to God. I will love you! Joe said beautiful vows and it came from his heart and I believed him. I said my vows to Joe and it came from my heart. Joe believed me!

Excuse me pause break again. I love it! Yesterday, I received an email from one of the ladies that I gave a card to a couple days ago! Her name is Maggie! Girl, thank you for encouraging me with your comments! I pray for you that you would just continue to be encouraged by the writings and please stop by here again so I can say hi! I am usually here most mornings. :-)

This morning more encouragement! I dropped my scarf and my caregiver wasn't here yet so I asked this guy sitting in the tall table to the left of me if he could get my scarf that I dropped on the floor. And, I also gave him a card. So, Harrison hello and thank you again and I pray that you will be encouraged by the writings. Remember even if you're sick you can still do stuff!

Perhaps, you guys are like me and probably most people of this world. I'm meaning we tend to misuse God's name. Sometimes, right?

Okay, let me approach it like this. First of all how exactly do you interpret misusing God's name? I think there's two ways. First of all it's the blatant and most obvious way when we say oh my God. I know right? I don't really think there's anything wrong with that one. I thought it was if you put profanity with the name God then you're getting yourself in trouble.

Pause break caregiver just got here so she gave one of my cards to guy on the bus the other day named Kenny. Kenny, thanks for accepting my card and I pray you will be encouraged by the writings!

As I was saying misusing God's name. How would you like it if somebody used your name when they were frustrated with something or angry about something. What about if you are about to die and they say oh my Sam! I know, that's just silly, and a little bit freaky scary.

Well, how do you think God feels when you do that. Just saying the Ten Commandments does say do not take the lord's name in vain. That's all I'll say about that. How about this next deep thought I'm about to say?

Do you ever say I swear to God? Why do we do that? Is not our own words credible and can people rely on us when we speak? So, if we swear to God and say w'ere going to do something yet we don't end up doing it,  well then doesn't that make God look bad? And, it makes us humans, appear like hypocrites. Think about what I just said for a second.

If you would really think about it,  God, Jesus Christ, Holy Father,  etcetera. Those names are pretty popular! I mean even non believers will say one of those names. I don't know it seems like maybe there's just something really powerful about those words, those names.

Matthew 5:37 Common English Bible (CEB)

37 Let your yes mean yes, and your no mean no. Anything more than this comes from the evil one.

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

—Philippians 2:10–11
