Power Series: Part 102: Power of Forgetting

Play for the Audio Version

Definitely not an easy thing to do. I totally agree. Do you guys agree? Do you guys know what I'm talking about? I am talking about exactly what my title says. There is certainly power in forgetting.

Did you guys know that once you invite Jesus into your life? Once you do a boo-boo or you, in other words, commit a sin and you confess it to the Lord, yes He forgives you. However, I want to mention that something else pretty awesome happens.

And, that is this. Once, we sinners confess the bad we did to the Lord, not only does he have the choice of whether or not to forgive us, but he also says that once we confess and ask for forgiveness, the Lord also says that he will forget about it. In other words, we will have a brand new clean slate!

Doesn't that sound awesome? I know right? That is pretty sweet! So, we really need to remember that. Because well God said so. So believe it! That settles it! ( Pastor Dave Yount). To reiterate, God will forget about that yucky thing, so should we!

Now for the bad news. Well, kind of bad news. Ready? Well, like I said god is all about forgetting it because that is the good thing to do. However, the evil one is all about the bad stuff. Remember I mentioned before, the evil one is usually opposite whatever God is about.

Yep, so say all of a sudden you will get little reminders in your mind of some bad stuff you used to be a part of? You could have sworn you already asked the Lord for forgiveness! You think to yourself oh, didn't I tell myself I was going to put this in the back of my brain? Actually, you probably did! And, you know the Lord already forgave you, but the evil one does not want you to forget that bad stuff. He doesn't want u to think God forgave you.

Or, what about when another party really hurt you and just did something that was totally unforgivable. However, you ended up forgiving the person. You forgave the person in your heart. You forgave the person and you told the Lord. And, maybe even forgive the person literally. However, thoughts are coming back again. The bad feelings you've had before against your friend is coming back you don't get it!

Here's my advice to you. Rebuke the evil one in Jesus name. And, he will flee from you. I have been in situations similar to what I am talking about. Therefore, I know what I'm talking about. Oh, yea it gives new meaning to the phrase your mind plays tricks on you!

1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness
