DTFS Promise Series Part 21: Promise Of The Tongue

Play for the Audio Version

Our God certainly does promise his people a lot of things. In particular, certain body parts. For this reading, I want to just focus on this. The body part labeled the Tongue.

Oh boy the tongue definitely has power. Don't you you think? The question we really need to be mindful about is this. Aside from the tongue's use for taste, let's look at this very important usage of the tongue as well. Is what is coming out of our mouth sounding positive or negative?

If your answer is positive. Then, my response to you is, good for you! That is what it is supposed to be like. Positive or encouraging words towards other people? That's exactly how God said it should be!

Utilizing my tongue to encourage others with words of positivity? Sure yeah okay I could do that. Saying something that entails always keeping your promise? Yeah I think I can say that I do that sometimes Thinking before you speak? Not really. What does the Bible say about the tongue?

But no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

Proverbs 18:21

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

Matthew 12:36-37

I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Proverbs 21:23

Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.

Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Proverbs 12:18

There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

Proverbs 12:25

Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.
Therefore encourage one another with these words.
