Now I am thinking I guess that's why he says in His word we should be slow to speak. Because we should spend some time thinking if what we say makes sense or if it will sound hurtful to someone. If you think about it, God really is just so smart that He knew if we were quick to speak, it kinda makes it more possible to make some error in our words. So, I see it like God is saying be slow to speak so you can think before you say something, ohhhh.
He also says He wants us to be slow to get angry. Why do you think that's so? I'll tell you what I think. Well, if we are quick to get angry wouldn't we be more likely to "explode" so to speak on the other person or people. Gosh, I see it now as being so difficult and close to impossible to not be quick to get angry. But, remember with humans it may be impossible but with God all things are possible. So, I guess if I really pray and ask God to change my heart to be slow to get angry, Lord willing He'll do it. I know it wouldn't be a rapid transformation or an everyday thing, because again we're not perfect. But, I truly believe God knows our hearts.
So, I guess the challenge is first do not put an email address in the To: of your email until you have read through the whole email and fixed all the mistakes. Read through your text message before sending. Remember to try to be slow to speak and really think of the words you say before they leave your mouth. Also, let's try to keep the peace and be slow to get angry. Wow, just thinking about that made me realize how there would definitely be more peace between people if that was the case.

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. (James 1:19-20 NIV)

Sam, it's josh. This is so true. A lot of time I "react" as appose to thinking first. I believe that comes from boxing. A lot is a reaction based on the opponents actions. I've been working hard to change that. I enjoy your stories.
ReplyDeletePraise God! Thanks for letting me know Josh! That was so encouraging! And, yup good to know im not alone on this. :).Take heart God will change that some day!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Josh. I feel like I do this more when I'm reacting to a verbal attack. Gotta try harder!
