When someone does something bad and you get affected, is it difficult for you to forget about it?
Well, let me share my answer. And, you may not agree but here I go. My response is a big Yes! I know we should not hold grudges, but to be honest my excuse is "Sometimes I can't help it!" that, friends, is actually a bunch of baloney. Someone in the past actually did something that negatively affected my view of this person. After awhile and speaking with more mature Christian mentors, I was given the words that I needed to forgive. So, I remember giving my feelings of negativity straight to the Lord and asking to soften my heart so I can be forgiving. Do you think the next part of my response goes something like, " Oh, God answered my prayer and I ended up loving this person and never remembering any negativity whatsoever!?" Well, it's kind of right but not all the way. The real response, I believe is the Lord heard my prayer and I know, I have become better at forgetting. I believe The Lord is flooding my mind with the positives in order to forget the negatives. However, there were times when I still had a little hint of remembering the bad. I will say currently, well after a handful of years, I'm closer to 100% forgetting than I was before, So, Victory! Friends, basically if a person hurts you, we really do have to forgive. It's so difficult I know, especially if the deed that was done to you was beyond painful. But, we just have to do it. And, I believe The Lord will bless you for it. One thing, that I recently was aware of from my pastor is, even if the person does not straight out apologize for hurting you, we still need to be forgiving in our hearts, because God knows our hearts. And, coming from someone who knows how difficult it is to forgive sometimes, I will say that forgiving someone who wronged you does make you feel a lot better in the end,
How about when someone wrongs you and does apologize and you forgave them, then do you forget about it and never bring it up again? My response to that is " I have a tendency to bring the past up a lot!" Should I? I really don't think I should, but I do. See, I have found that Jesus forgets our sins as soon as we say sorry and ask for forgiveness He forgives us. He doesn't bring it up again in his mind, He doesn't hold it against us. Wow, that is pretty awesome right?!
Forgetting things can go both ways I guess, depending on how you look at it. I believe we should forget when someone wrongs you somehow and be forgiving, If not, it can lead to some brutal retaliation that may have easily been avoided. I can't even begin to say the bad that would erupt from that. But, we definitely, should not forget the good things God allows to happen in your life. I don't think we should forget important dates, or any of the like. I guess use your own discretion as far as determining what you should or should not forget. I believe God will speak to hearts. I also believe the evil one will put stuff you don't want to remember in your minds too. I have definitely had that happen a time or more. When that happens rebuke it in Jesus' name! Hope this writing for the day was helpful!
