This morning in my Daily Bread devotional reading, the Bible reading was in the 16th Chapter of the book of Genesis. It was the story of Sarah and her maid servant Hagar. This is another very interesting story I definitely recommend reading at your leisure. Sarah was an old woman who was unable to conceive and was barren. She really wanted a child but for some reason the Lord wasn't blessing her with a child at her appointed time. I guess she became really impatient, so she decided to take matters into her own hands, by having her maid servant, Hagar sleep with her husband Abraham, and continuing his blood line. I don't think the Lord was too happy about that. If you would read further in the bible story, you will see what was in the future for Sarah, Hagar, and Abraham and the consequences of Sarah's impatience.
Do you guys ever get impatient? I know I do. Joe would scold me at times and say, YOU have NO PATIENCE! I don't deny it. I know I don't. I believe everything happens in God's time not Sam's time. Boy, do I really forget that a lot though! Sometimes, I find myself praying for patience for
something to or not to happen, and God decides to be funny and for reasons I don't understand He would make me wait and wait and wait. Does that sound familiar?
It really does, for lack of a better word suck well for me when I have to wait for long periods of time. Sometimes, I really do think the Lord is trying to be funny. I guess one example I can think of is my marriage proposal. My husband and I dated for around 9 years until he proposed to me. Why he waited that long? I have no idea. I guess The Lord had a plan. I trusted it, prayed that the Lord's will be done and gave my impatience to God. After undergoing other obstacles he finally proposed. See, the Lord had a plan for us to first overcome. We successfully jumped through a series of challenging hurdles, and to my pleasant surprise Joe proposed.
I guess another quick example I want to give is when I wait for my disability divers to pick me up. I kid you not, the majority of the time they are late! I am learning to already assume they will be late, but after taking this service for sooo long, it gets so annoying when they are late. I can give many examples of how bad and mean some drivers are, but I will skip the bashing and just point out that the reason they were late was because maybe God had a plan for me to stay at my destination to speak to someone or bless someone right? I guess when I think of it in that way I can't be mad at God,
I guess what I want to stress and make others realize is, patience. We really need to have patience. Being impatient can cause arguments, harsh words, and nothing that is positive. Believe me! Some of you may know what I am talking about. We have to just do it, and I believe what we want to happen or not happen will eventually play out according to the Lord's will. No matter what, I believe we will be ok with whatever comes out.
