NV: I think people have different reasons why they go to church. But for me, it's more for fellowship and growing with other believers. Sure, reading the word and the sermon are good too, but there's nothing like worship and fellowship with other believers.
NM: The Church was designed to be the group that would not only spread the Gospel to the corners of the earth (Acts 1:8) but would also provide spiritual guidance and exhortation to believers (Heb. 3:10-13). The Church was not meant to be a spiritual country club but rather a hospital for the unwell. It is with the greatest humility and acceptance that a Church should consider itself a safe place for people to heal from the wounds of their sin, not a social club where their sins are to be hidden and swept under the rug. Ideally, people need the Church because this is the place where they are supposed to grow in faith under the auspices of other believers who have been bestowed the spiritual gifts for the exhortation of the believers (1 Cor. 12). The Church is also a place where love and humility is to be demonstrated no matter how much hurt, pain and suffering could be caused by a believer to another believer. This is not usually enforced because our sin nature dictates self-preservation over enduring suffering for the sake of another. However, this is one of the big reasons why we need the Church. We need a place where we can deal with the ravages of our humanity and still find hope in Jesus Christ.
BP: God tells us we should be in fellowships with fellow believers and besides that it helps to build true relationships with people who can understand the struggles of a christian.
DE: Jesus talked often about the Body of the Church being like a human body. All the pieces work together, doing the jobs only they can do. It's hard for a body to function at full speed if pieces never plug in to the rest. Going to church helps rejuvenate and reinspire the members of the body so that they can face the challenges ahead. Fellowship is vital to finding and realizing God's purpose for each person. A Christian that doesn't go to church and build relationships with believers, but instead sits in isolation, is a prime target of the enemy. Someone on their own has no one who can help them fight against the attacks from the enemy, so that person is more likely to backslide and go astray.
AS: Church functions as a place where christians can meet and encourage each other as a community. We as people must have community, and as christians we need to be in community with believers in some way. The local church is the best way for alot of people to get that community. However, there are people that have been very damaged by the local church, and therefore choose not to go. Thats okay as long as you keep in contact with believers in some way (small group, bible study, etc.)
ASM: I think we need church to fuel our relationship with God by worshiping Him and hear His word. Ive had times when I've had the worst week and when I've gone to church and heard the message I've felt so convicted, uplifted, or loved and I think it's important to hear and learn from the message at church. Church is a place for fellowship, love and support, and being with our church family.
AK: We should BE the church and come together to learn, encourage each other, and worship our God. The church building offers us place to do this.
