The title of my writing this morning is, "What exactly is the secret?" True, I could be meaning a lot of things. There could be a secret to many things. Maybe, I'm talking about my deodorant that is also labeled "Secret." I am not though. I'm talking about this subject to come.
First, I would like to start with this Bible verse.
"I am the vine. You are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him bears much fruit, for without me you can do nothing." ~John 15:5Really, I believe there is nothing you can do without God. However, today I am talking about spiritual growth. Friends, we cannot have spiritual growth without God helping us. Do I think you are a mature Christian? Who cares what I think right? I probably will start formulating in my head some thoughts about the subject. But, that is how far I should go. Meaning, I'm not going to gossip.
What about me? Do I consider myself a mature Christian? All I'm going to say is my faith is a lot different than it was 10 years ago. I'm also going to say that my walk with God can be a lot better. And, again, I am a work in progress.
The Bible verse that I shared earlier should definitely encourage us. Jesus is saying that if we abide in him we will bear much fruit. I totally hear that as you will grow spiritually. I cannot put a time line on when that growth will come and reach its maximum level. However all I am going to do is tell you that it can happen.
For me, it was a slow progression and I said everyone is not perfect so God is still working on people's heart. For someone else I know, I know this person is pretty much mature in the spiritual level (well more than I am,) This person encourages me and helps me to grow in my spiritual walk with God.
I want to end it with what Pastor Greg Laurie said.
If you want to grow spiritually, if you want to be able to resist temptation, if you want to live a life that is pleasing to God, then you must abide in ChristEncouraging Sports quote of the day:
“I played as hard as I could. That’s all I wanted to be remembered for.” – Larry Bird
Philippians 3:12-14 ESV
Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
