What the Lord is bringing to my mind now is this one incident many years ago. At the time, Joe and I used to go to Bible study on some Fridays during the month. One day we decided to skip Bible study to go hang out with some friends and have dinner and stuff.
As we were on our way in about to enjoy a rather long drive some stuff happened. First of all it started snowing really bad I mean the kind of snow that tells you you should not be on the road. When we accepted the invitation to hang out with our friends instead of going to Bible study, I felt a little uneasy. However I did not say anything to Joe. As a wife I should never say anything to contradict my husband's decisions. This is also known as "I did not argue with him." Do I follow Joe's leading with no argument, all the time? Yeah right!! All I will say to that is I'm a work in progress. I know I'm not supposed to argue with my husband because it will only result in disaster. But to reiterate, I am a work in progress.
Anyway, back to my example of God saying no. So as I said, the weather was really bad as we were on the road. I was wondering if we were going to get to our destination. Remember I did not say anything to Joe. Then, all of the sudden, let's just say he was able to break at the right time. Remember, I didn't say anything but it looks like God was trying to say something. When the almost-accident happened, I still did not say anything. That was scary and I wanted to. Maybe something like we should not have went to...but with the grace of God I didn't.
Then what happened? Well, I think God was successful in trying to get Joe's attention and to tell him no. What happened next was that Joe turned the car around and we ended up driving somewhere and had a nice dinner. Moral of the story is this, if God doesn't want you to do something, you'll just know.
Please don't misunderstand. Would it have been totally wrong to go out with my friends instead of Bible study? Well, that opinion really goes to your own heart. I'm not saying that God is going to always put on a storm if you don't go to Bible study but just hang out with your friends. No, of course not. What I am saying is for me and my husband, and that particular day, with that particular incident, God chose to say no. And, you know what? Me and my husband didn't really listen hard enough, I guess, to what God was saying. So God decided to do the storm and potential accident and maybe that would make us listen.
And, you know what? It did just that. More importantly, my husband did just that. He listened to what his heart was saying. He noticed what the almighty God was doing to prevent us from going to our friends house. Like I said, it's not like we can never go to our friend's house and skip Bible study. No, but that day he wanted to make a point to us.
Do you guys get what I'm trying to say? Friends, if God is saying no to something, we will know. Sometimes, God will do the incredible to alert us of his thinking. Perhaps like for me with the incident I mentioned, there would be like an absence of peace in your heart. God can do anything when it comes to that or other things. I've long enough on this Earth as a born again Christian and have totally seen that.
So my closing statement can only be this. When God says no we will know and we have to obey what he wants us to do and listen to what he is saying
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
Luke 6:46 ESV
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?
Romans 6:16 ESV
Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?
