Siblings " Brothers "

For today's writing I want to talk about siblings. Maybe, sibling rivalry? There are four people in the Bible that really sticks out to me. They're two brothers and two sisters. I'm an only child so I don't really know what it's like to have a sibling. I had a sister, Maria that died when she was like not even born yet. It's kind of sad because back in the 80s you know how the equipment was back then. If she was born in today's time, I'm pretty sure they could have saved her. Anyway. now time for my writing.

Like I said, I'm an only child. My husband has an older sister and younger brother. I guess, one time, something made him so angry that he punched his brother. That kind of reminds me of the Bible story of Esau and Jacob.

If you guys know the Bible, you will know a little bit about the two brothers Esau and Jacob, and the two sisters Rachel and Leah. Today I just want to talk about the brothers and save the sisters for another writing.

Esau and Jacob were the sons of Isaac. Remember Isaac was the "miracle child" of Abraham and Sarah? Well, these two brothers had an interesting Bible story I would like to share with you guys.  Here are some deep thoughts.

First of all Esau was born first and therefore was the older brother and Isaac was supposed to give him the birthright. Due to Esau's lack of care about his birthright, Jacob was able to take Esau's birthright from him.  Later on, due to some conniving plans directed by his mother, Jacob was also able to receive a bigger blessing than his brother Esau.  I suggest reading the whole story about that.

Esau was pretty upset about that no doubt. That was not the only thing Jacob did to him that was wrong. You guys can imagine that Esau pretty much despised him.  What's important about getting the birthright? If you are given the birthright you get a pretty generous inheritance.

Many years later Esau forgave Jacob. Let me end this writing with some words from my daily bread devotional this morning.
"As my brother and I got older, we became close. That’s the thing with God. When we respond to the forgiveness He offers, His grace can transform our sibling rivalries into brotherly love."(DB)
