Matthew 10:37
Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
To another he said, "Follow me." But he said, "Lord, let me first go and bury my father." And Jesus said to him, "Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God."
Luke 14:26 NIV
If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters--yes, even their own life--such a person cannot be my disciple.
Matthew 28:19-20 ESV
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
Now, according to those Bible verses I'm thinking it depends on the situation whether or not you and me should use our precious time to care. I think we really have to be pretty mindful and take extra special notice of our situation. Maybe even say a little prayer? Then check your heart to see if we should even care. I know right? Who would have thought thinking about caring about something would be so much work.
The way I see it, is I guess if we are truly children of God. Then we don't want to have a messed-up testimony. And that starts with our attitude with certain things. We may not really pay much attention to it but there are people out there who are watching the credibility of the Christians.
Now, when it comes to priority. God is our number one priority. It's simple to say but, oh so difficult to do. You're not the only one. I'm not the only one. What about the guy who was asked by Jesus to follow him but then he said okay but let me bury my father first.
What about when it says anyone who loves their mother or father more than me cannot be my disciple? That's a hard one to internalize in my thoughts. Lord does say he wants us to honor father and mother don't get me wrong. Please continue to do that. There it is again, priority. Honor
your mother and father, in the Lord. Remember the Lord is your first priority even over your mother and father.
The last verse I shared is about the Great Commission. Are you a child of God? If so, then our hearts should feel this urge to want to tell people about God! Maybe not every second of your life, but you'll know. The holy spirit will be knocking at your heart if you're meant to talk to that person about God.
Oh, you'll know. You will have this unexplainable care to let that person be touched by either
verbally your words, or maybe just by your life! Your verbal actions speak a lot but your non-verbal actions may sometimes speak or show a lot more.
We, true Christians have this god-given burden to care about other people. You know how you act Sunday when you go to church? Try acting like somewhat similar to that Monday through Saturday as well. You'll see some changes in other people's attitude towards you! Then, it may lead you to an opportunity to talk to them about God and share the gospel with them. Jesus cares so much for us. Do you?
