This man aka the son of God had a choice. And lucky for us, he chose right! Folks, when Jesus was crucified he had one man that was about to be crucified on his left and one man that was about to be crucified on his right.
One of those men asked Jesus if he can remember him when Jesus gets to his kingdom. The other man, I'm thinking was totally influenced by the evil side. He said to Jesus if he really is the son of God then why doesn't he save himself and get down from the cross. And, while he's at it save the other man as well. That's not verbatim lingo but pretty much close to the context.
I think we forget that sometimes. I mean we forget that Jesus had a choice. Good thing for us he chose not to be selfish when he could have chosen the other way. Would we even be here? The answer is no! Because of the fact Jesus said yes Lord yes to his father's will and to his way we can now believe in his name, trust him, obey him, and follow his lead. Friends, we can all be saved!
One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!" But the other rebuked him, saying, "Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong." And he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." And he said to him, "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise."
