Before I start my writing let me first give a shout out to Megan! Megan was this nice lady at Starbucks who helped me put on my glove on my right hand. Megan , I pray you will be encouraged by the writings! Have a wonderful day!
Shout out to Mark! A nice gentleman who just started talking to me. So, I asked him if he can put my hot pack back in my glove. He did. Thank you so much! And, shout out to your friend Steve who will soon get the card too! Have a great day guys!
And, I want to give my last shout out for the day to this man, Dennis. I used to see him a lot before here at Starbucks. Thank you Dennis for accepting my card and to taking one for your friend, Michael. I pray that all of you people who got my card today will be encouraged by the reading and everything else on my card.
Remember, I like to show people that even if you're sick, don't let that stop you.You can still do stuff! Now, time for the writing for today!
It's not rocket science to figure out that we live in America. We live in the land of opportunity. We live in a place where we have to work if you want to get money. What is the well known saying? Money is definitely what makes the world go round. Money is what you need if you want to survive on this earth.
Do you feel hungry? Yes! Do you want to sleep in a warm bed with a roof over your head? Yes! Perhaps, people would want their own personal leisure activities on the side? A television? A computer? A cell phone? An artificial intelligent friend ? Alexa? You want that stuff? You have to work! I think you guys understand what I'm trying to say.
Listen to me. I'm talking about working. Yet I myself don't even have a job. Wait a minute, it's not like I don't want one. Believe me I would rather trade having MS with having a job any day!
Unfortunately, my multiple sclerosis has progressed to the point where I no longer can work. And, I believe the Lord has a different plan for my life now.
W orking a nine-to-five job is no longer for me. I know I mentioned before in a previous writing that I count myself as an early retiree. I started working when I was 14 years old, under the table as a waitress in a place that is no longer in existence. Then, when I was a sophomore in high school to a little bit of my junior year I worked as a bank teller. Then for college I worked at a credit union. Then, after graduating college I seriously became a jill-of-all-trades.
Meaning, I had internships and employment in several different types of agencies. I was a sales and marketing executive. I worked a little at recruitment agencies, advertising agencies, and my final two jobs were my favorite! I worked as an assistant producer at WBBM AM news radio. I still don't know why I left that place. I was a stupid kid looking for more pay and a full-time job. I should have been content with what I had even though the hours were unpredictable and the pay was not full-time hours of employment.
What can I say? I was a kid that wanted to get paid more money and get benefits! I wasn't really looking at the whole picture. So, that's just a little of my own personal work history. To reiterate, now I see myself as an early retiree. Now, it's like my job is here at Starbucks sometimes, most of the times.
Seriously when I got laid off my final job more than 10 years ago that was when I started going to Starbucks! Now, I feel like God is my boss. Well, in more ways than one. Working involves putting in a lot of time and a lot of your energy. I definitely believe that there is power in work. I once heard these words "Being a Christian involves being set to work, especially in the work of the gospel.
How true is that?
Fellow Christians, introducing people to Christ is going to take some work. I think we need to ask ourselves do you want to spend our time working at telling people about Christ? Well, do you even know Christ as your personal Lord and savior? Maybe you should think about that first. Then, after you become a child of God, time to start thinking on how to become a hard working child of God, working to share Christ with others?
Let's pray.
Father, our economy especially nowadays is somewhat unreliable. Father we thank you for giving us a place of employment. Father we pray that you would be evident in our lives. And the people that we work with will see you in us and want to know more about you! We love you Lord. We praise you in Jesus name Amen!
Psalm 128:2
You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. (NIV)
Proverbs 12:11
Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense. (NIV)
Proverbs 14:23
All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. (NIV)
