Definitely Not A Laughing Matter

Play for the Audio Version

I'm remembering what Pastor Laurie said in 1 of his devotions. He was saying this, " For people who do not believe in hell, they sure like to use it alot to punctuate their sentences." It was something along those lines. As long as one will get the context.

When I 1st read that? I could not agree more. How about when someone is surprised they say what the He- double hockey stick. Or, maybe they are in total agreement and will say HE-double hockey stick yeah. If they do not agree they may say HE double hockey stick No! Well, I don't think I need to give any more examples.  You pretty much get it.

So, since one would say the word so much? There must be a little part deep down in their soul that believes in the word "hell."

And, I believe that I am here to do my writing on the subject of hell. Really to stress that this place is definitely nothing to be laughing about.

What comes to mind is when Halloween comes around. There are those people who think it's cute to dress up in scary, dev'lish costumes that may promote evil. I'm not talking about anyone except for myself.

I remember when I was a kid, I used to love Halloween. No, I think I mean I used to love trick or treating on Halloween. One more time. Folks, I used to love getting all the candy I wanted. Then stuffing my face with all the candy. On Halloween!

One year on Halloween, I wanted to dress up all cute and at the same time all deadly. So, I wore a cute dress. I had fake blood all over my face and drew in some fake bruises.

I know! Come to think of it now, wow I was a stupid kid lol Well, I shouldn't say stupid. I take that back. And, say I was blinded by what the world considered to be cute. Yes, that's more of what I mean.

Friends, I was not cute! The words cute and deadly should not even be in the same sentence! Let's see what the Bible has to say about all of this.

Ephesians 5:11

Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them.

Matthew 5:34

But I tell you not to swear by anything when you make a promise! Heaven is God's throne, so don't swear by heaven.

Matthew 5:37

When you make a promise, say only “Yes” or “No.” Anything else comes from the devil.
