Similar to the majority of the people in the United States, I used to drive a lot. Now, nowhere in that sentence does it say I was a good driver, but I tried. I was an impatient driver and that's not good. Unfortunately, now because of the progression of my MS, I haven't driven in years. Sometimes, I actually think that God took my driving privileges away just to keep me alive and safe. Just a thought. Lol I can't read the mind of God. But, can you imagine how impatient I would be if I had to drive through so many detours! The detours I'm talking about in this writing is not necessarily regarding driving other directions. I'm talking about "God detours."
Have you ever been so excited to go the next step in your life of what you had planned, but then something happens. Maybe a death of your loved one, diagnosis of cancer, maybe you had a car accident, your house got on fire.....anything catastrophic or traumatizing really that just ruined your original plan.
Well, that just for lack of a better word, sucks right! Ok, I guess the way we could look at things and try to cheer ourselves up is by thinking God put that incident in your life because maybe if he allowed you to do the original plan something worse would've happened.
Let me share an interesting story my Pastor told in one of his sermons awhile go. " There was a husband and wife who had a small business. The husband was about to make a bad business decision. The wife said no because it would have been bad for the business. The husband followed the wife and the company was saved. It turned out that God was trying to break the business up, because the husband was getting too close to this lady friend in this business. He ended up leaving his wife." Do you see the large detour God wanted them to make, all because he knew the marriage would not have lasted.
What I also think the point of that story was is the wife should not have interfered with her husbands decision. Because, remember God said the wives need to respect the husband. What a story right?
Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. (Proverbs 19:21 NIV)
since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect. (Hebrews 11:40 NIV)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV)
