Sometimes when I pray I tend to skip or shorten the details, and just hurriedly rush through my prayer not giving any specifics. I just really try to focus on the bulk of the prayer! You know what I mean? I think God does want us to be pretty detailed in our prayers and very specific. Have you ever thought about that? I never really did well, until....There were several times throughout the years of being a prayerful woman that I ended up wishing that I could go back in time to the initial prayer and throw in the specifics.
Prayer 1: Dear Lord please don't let it rain as we drive to our destination. Answer- It didn't rain , but it snowed. Should have prayed: Dear Lord, please don't let the weather be bad, or be really specific and say Dear Lord, I pray for no rain, snow, hail, no traffic, no accidents, so on and so forth. If you choose that route, prepare to rack your brain because there can be a lot of interruptions that may happen to ruin your day.
Prayer 2: Dear Lord please let us find a nice parking spot. Answer: The Lord made us find a nice looking parking spot, but really far from the door of the store. Should have prayed: Dear Lord, please let us find a nice parking spot close to the door!
Prayer 3: Dear Lord, I pray that I save up enough money to buy a video game. Answer: I saved up enough money, but the video game that I truly wanted was more expensive. There was a video game that was affordable and matched the price of the money I saved up. But, it wasn't the game I truly wanted. Should have prayed: Dear Lord I pray that I save up $100 or however much the game you wanted costs.
I hope you see where I am going with this? We need to be specefic in our prayers,. God very well may answer you, but the answer may not totally succumb to the need you are praying for. I really don't think God is stupid and oh he knows what we are really asking for. However, I also think he
wants to hear specifics. When I am praying I always start with thanking The Lord for the day and I think that's how God wants it. He wants to be acknowledged and thanked before I bombard him with prayer requests. Try it. It may work for you
Prayer 4: Dear Lord please let there be no rain on my wedding day. Answer: There was no rain while everyone were outside during the ceremony. Thank God it was such a beautiful day! However, during the reception, when everyone were indoors, it rained quite heavily for hours. I think God was showing his sense of humor!!!
Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. (Colossians 4:2 NLT)
