Sometimes, I really hate it when that happens! I'll give some examples. Let's say you are watching your favorite TV show, but you wake up towards the ending credits because you fell asleep! Or, you have something in the oven, and uh oh you missed hearing the timer because you fell asleep! Don't you absolutely hate it when any of those things happen?
Is it our fault? I think the answer is yes and no. You may not agree with me and that's perfectly cool. But let me elaborate and explain why I believe the way I say. Well, lets take the I fell asleep watching the television show scenario. I might have been up super late the night before because I was just unable to fall asleep. I had awoken super early because I just couldn't help it, hence I was tired! There is why I think my fault comes into play.
Now, let's put God in the scenario and how I think He worked. Well, first He knew you would be super tired that day because of the little sleep you had gotten. He knew you would fall asleep watching your favorite tv program. Maybe, God had a plan for you the following day and he didn't want you to be super tired so that's why he wanted to make sure you had enough energy.
Here's an example, it was Friday night. And, I used to really get angry when I fell asleep early because it was kind of like I was wasting the weekend away. One Friday evening, while watching my favorite program, I fell asleep and woke up to find I had missed more than half of my program! I was so mad and blamed my husband for letting me sleep. First of all, he said he tried to wake me up and I wasn't waking up. You know sometimes waking me up works and sometimes not. It definitely was not my husbands fault. It definitely was not God's fault. I think it was God's plan.
Sometimes, I feel like is God testing me? "Let's make Sam fall asleep during her show and have Joe try to wake her up but then not have her wake up so she misses her show. Will Sam express hatred, bitterness, anger towards Joe?" Well, I have no idea what is in the mind of God, but I do know that the bible says that human anger does not produce thee righteousness that God desires. I do know that the bible says we should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Case in point when I woke up from falling asleep I quickly accused Joe of not waking me up. What I should have done was first listen to him saying I wouldn't wake up when he tried to wake me up. Do you see where I am going with this?
To reiterate, I don't believe God is ever at fault for our errors or mistakes. I believe He knows the mistakes are coming and allows mistakes to happen. And, I have no idea what God's plans are in the future, but my deep thought is maybe God allows our mistakes so we can use his words to remedy them?
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. (James 1:19-21 NIV)
