We Need Church Series Part 5: Hospitality

Honestly, I was really going back and forth deciding if I wanted to include this subject in my series.   Seriously, I really prayed because I was not sure of how God wanted me to to address this. Well, as you can see by the title, he answered. Showing hospitality, I think can be a rather controversial thing.  And, I think we really have to weigh and examine the others needs and such.  For example, if the person is considered to be dangerous, use your common sense and listen to your heart.  However, if we know of the people, we know their need, they appear trustworthy, and the most important thing is if you feel God is speaking to your heart, then you know what you must do.  I am not thinking you need to give up your home totally and cook them meals forever, but I do think you should establish some ground rules and a departure estimated date if you feel that is what you should do?

See, if these people are truly dependable children of God, I do not think they will take advantage of your hospitality. At my church, sometimes the members are in need of some sort of help, maybe cleaning, cooking meals, care taking, etc. Sometimes, even the missionaries that come visit from other countries are welcomed by people from church willing to give them a place to stay. No doubt, their hearts were spoken to by God concerning this matter right?

Some people at my church volunteer their hospitality just so we would have a nice, clean church by every Saturday evening and Sunday morning.  The Lord knows if there are new people visiting that they will immediately turn around and leave if they saw a church in utter mess and chaos! That's why The Lord has people in mind already to fix up the church! To attract new people and hope they will come to accept God is the desired goal!

1 Peter 4:8-10 ESV

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace:
