For me, growing up as an only child, some may say I was perhaps, spoiled. So, when I heard the word "no" from my parents, I refused to take it and did and said what I could to alter that no to a yes. When I grew up and became more mature, I slowly grew out of that. When I became a more mature committed Christian, I continued to grow out of being spoiled. And, even now, I still have those moments, when my husband teases me about being spoiled by the parents. Sorry, babe I can't help it! Lol
Sometimes mom and dad asked me to do something, and I know I can be a disobedient girl. However, you know who I really shouldn't be disobedient to before mom and dad? Yup, you guessed it, our almighty savior and Lord! I'll share a story. I was not yet married, so I was still living at home, and have already been a committed Christian over 10 years. I knew what the bible said about baptism. But, I was being very disobedient for years. Honestly, because I was pretty scared of disobeying my parents. I felt God put in my heart " don't be afraid and just trust me." So, I did it. I happily
displayed a public affirmation of my faith and followed the Lord's calling in believers baptism! There were some rough patches with the parents but they were my parents that God gave to me, and they loved me! Somehow, God made them understand my wanting to be obedient to Him. Let my story be an encouragement to you. We really just have to trust and obey our Heavenly Father! :)
Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to do everything I have told you. I will be with you always, even until the end of the world. (Matthew 28:19-20 CEVUK00)6
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. (Romans 6:3-6 ESV)
" Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Saviour, the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to his faith in the final resurrection of the dead." ????
