1 Up!

Happy Sunday! Let me share with you something I remember playing when I was a kid in grade school. Let's see if it rings any bells with any other people. Who knows, maybe my class was weird? Okay do you guys ever remember playing a game when you put your head down on your desk and then put a thumbs up with your head down and your eyes closed. Then they would pick a certain number of people to go around the room and to put that Thumb that is Up down. Then, after a certain amount of time everyone would put their head up and they would have to guess which one of the people put that person's thumb down.

Did you ever play that game? How funny the Lord put that in my head right now. That had to have been like 30 plus years ago. I wonder if they still play that now. Can you believe that I remembered that? Yep I guess God wanted me to remember that.  Okay, why do I think God wanted me to remember that weird game. Yet, when I was young I probably thought it was like the best game ever LOL Kids like games.

Anyway I guess the fact that it was all about the thumbs up made me think of "one up." What on Earth do I mean?  I think it is very important for us people to be content with what the Lord has provided in our lives. I know of people who always like to be one up the other person. And then it becomes a continuous cycle because it just goes back and forth until what? I guess until they get bored or broke? The first person will get a Camry. Then, I don't know perhaps your loved one may get a Lexus. Or, somebody gets a 60-inch television set. Then you suddenly feel like getting a 70 inch television set. Yet, you really don't need it but you just want to be better then your friend. You just want to be one up.

Friends, have you really ever really thought of what the point of all that is? Does it really make you feel like you are the king or queen of the hill, so to speak?

Friends, I don't know how outrageous this could get. However, I'm going to guess that it might get to the point of losing a loved one because of some pretty crazy (1 up) retaliations! So, I'm going to end this writing by saying stop that one-upping people! God wants you to be content with what he has given to you. If he wants to give you something better? Then, he will. If he doesn't want to give you anything better? Then, he won't and we have to be okay with that! Have a wonderful blessed Sunday!

Philippians 4:11-13 ESV

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Hebrews 13:5 ESV

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

1 Timothy 6:6-8 ESV

Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
