Now, what about when things don't go too well? Maybe one was diagnosed with cancer and only has a few days left to live? Maybe one lost their whole family in a terrible car accident? Maybe one was suddenly struck with horrible ailments and their body and looks rather disastrous?
At those times do you still feel like giving thanks? You know who I'm thinking of? Yep Job! If you don't know the story of Job in the Bible, I suggest you definitely read about him. This poor gentleman basically went through the bad.
However, he was never bitter or mean or hateful towards God for what God allowed to happen in his life. This is what he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord” (Job 1:21).
Would you be able to do that? I mean would you be able to say thank you and bless the Lord for bringing calamity in your life? I don't know about you guys but I would not be able to, at least not immediately. Probably with much, much, much prayer the people would put on me. Because of the time of experiencing the actual heartache my mind will be cloudy and filled with only bitterness and questions of why. That's just how we humans are.
You know, this morning my husband gave me oatmeal. But I wanted cereal. Thankfully he threw away the oatmeal. He definitely was not in a spirit of happiness, but he threw it out and got me cereal. I should have been thankful that I was even given something. But stupid me, I was not. So, I forgot to say thank you. So husband if you are reading this which you probably are LOL Thank you for getting me my Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal. It was really yummy!
See what I'm getting at folks? Being thankful and saying thank you is something we should do all the time. However, because we are human we will forget! Because we are human, our human nature will not immediately give us a spirit of thankfulness for something bad that would happen. So, the overall gist of my wriing today is we need to be thankful. Thankful for anything that happens to us, good or bad because God is allowing it. God knows what he's doing and is way smarter than us. God is allowing it because it's only for our good. What do you guys think about that one?
Encouraging thought of the day:
Did you just receive good news? Did you just receive bad news? Are you thankful? You should be! :-)
Boyz II Men: Thank you
