There are a lot of meanings behind the word salt. My friend Carey Lewis brought to my attention some key points about Christians and salt. I'm just going to share two of some of her points. First thing she mentioned was that we all know how salt preserves freshness and prevent decay. Indeed, nothing is more refreshing than the Lord.
"We are called to preserve His legacy and to build on the foundation He laid." CLAnother interesting point she made and something we all know, of course, is that salt is known as a spice. It definitely adds flavor to our foods. As Christians, we need to add flavor to the world. We need to do that by witnessing and sharing Christ with non-believers. Let me share something else that came to my mind. Okay when we're cooking and we want to add salt I don't think we add a lot right away because then it will taste yucky. So what do we do? We add salt little by little. Not to mention if you add too much you can't exactly take little pieces of the salt out of your meal.
How do I see that as a correlation to Christians? Well, when we witness Christ to someone we don't bombard them with like the whole truth right away. We listen to them. And we talk generously and carefully because we don't want it to turn them away. We kind of like get a feel of their personality. And the Holy Spirit helps us get back a feeling as well.
So, that's a pretty interesting point that we believers are like salt. I guess now the question we have to ask ourselves is are we showing the world a good explanation and a good meaning of the word salt? Or, are we bombarding them and not making the food taste good but rather just too salty and just yucky?
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Acts 1:8 ESV
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
1 Peter 3:15 ESV
But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,
