In the Bible, he tells us straight out what he doesn't like and then compares it to something pretty nasty. The Bible makes it pretty clear that God doesn't like those who act "holier than thou."
Oh, I get it. And, yeah those people are annoying. I hope I never act like one of those types of people. Of course, there always lies a chance so I have to be very careful not to act that way. God apparently hates it as he should. You're acting that way will only turn people away from wanting to know more about God.
Let me share different versions of one Bible verse. Let's look at Isaiah 65:5
New International Version
who say, 'Keep away; don't come near me, for I am too sacred for you!' Such people are smoke in my nostrils, a fire that keeps burning all day.
New Living Translation
Yet they say to each other, 'Don't come too close or you will defile me! I am holier than you!' These people are a stench in my nostrils, an acrid smell that never goes away.
English Standard Version
who say, “Keep to yourself, do not come near me, for I am too holy for you.” These are a smoke in my nostrils, a fire that burns all the day.
who say, “Keep to yourself, do not come near me, for I am too holy for you.” These are a smoke in my nostrils, a fire that burns all the day.
New American Standard Bible
"Who say, 'Keep to yourself, do not come near me, For I am holier than you!' These are smoke in My nostrils, A fire that burns all the day.
I think you guys get the point. So, if you are one who thinks that acting "holier than thou" is going to attract people to want to know more about Jesus, think again. Be mindful of the Bible verse I just shared. Remember God is the ultimate Holy One! You are like his representative before they get to the real thing! So, be a good representative!
Have a wonderful Saturday!
