It Depends On It

Let's be honest. Maybe not every time, but most of the time, when we get on the plane and the flight attendant does her routine talk on giving instructions of what to do if there was an emergency, what do we end up doing? I don't think we really pay attention. Well, I don't know about you guys, but I do not really pay attention all the time. I think last time I got in a plane, I actually did listen a little. However, considering my poor attention span, I probably would need to hear it over and over again.

So, it's probably good for me that they always say what to do if there was an emergency every time we get on the plane. Normal people with normal attention spans, do you guys remember all the directions they gave for an emergency? I guess you should because your life depends on it. Right?

Kind of like the Bible. People on Earth should read the Bible. Why? Because their spiritual life depends on it. Do we read it every day? Well for me, I try.  I don't though.
But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'"—Matthew 4:4
Pastor Greg Laurie says in his Bible devotion from this morning:
"Success or failure in the Christian life depends on how much of the Bible you get into your heart and mind on a daily basis and how obedient you are to it. If you have a deficiency of the Bible in your spiritual diet, then you’ll wither spiritually. You will unravel. But if you have a regular diet of the Word of God, you will be strong spiritually."
Wow! I don't know about you guys but what Pastor Greg said really got to my heart. God is telling us in his word how not and what he doesn't want us to do. He doesn't want us to do them because he knows what it will do to our emotions. He knows what it will do to our spiritual life. Reading and listening to what the Bible says is not what makes you a disciple of Christ, it's keeping on reading and paying more attention to the word of God. That is what makes you a disciple.  Personally, I need to work on myself and being a disciple of Christ.
