Genesis Series Part 70: K&S

Before I get into my reading this morning, I just want to give a shout out to, first of all, Donald. I met Donald yesterday here at Starbucks. He was a very nice gentleman sitting next to me. I also want to say hello to Bob. Bob was a very nice gentleman I met here this morning. My hands were so freezing and my caregiver wasn't in here yet so I asked him if he can get me hot water for my cold hands. And, hello also to Wanda. She was a woman on the bus that my caregiver gave a card to. Thanks to the three of you guys who accepted my card! I pray you will be encouraged by the writings! Time to speak my writing on my phone!

Today I'm going to talk about kindness versus selfishness. As far as giving an example of today's characters. Well, I'm not going to call them out and point out their faults. Especially that which makes them selfish. No, no, no. That is not my job. My job is to bring people up and encourage people. I know I don't do it all the time, but when I remember, I should do it.

So as far as today's kindness example, immediately I think of some of the Starbucks customers here. Off the top of my head, because I just met them, I can think of the man Donald yesterday. What did happen with him was my caregiver was pushing my wheelchair to the bathroom and he was concerned if he would be in our way. We said we were fine. Then when I came back from the bathroom the Holy Spirit knocked in my heart and told me to give him a card. So I gave him a card and I explained that I was a Multiple Sclerosis activist and I write a Blog about the Lord and how he is awesome! I told him I like to show people that even if you're sick you can still do stuff! This man kindly accepted my card and told me that I was so inspiring! Wow, I didn't even know this guy and just meeting him but he was an encouragement to me.

The gentleman this morning was also showing me kindness. I really needed hot water because my hands were starting to get numb. Remember my hands and feet get really cold but the rest of my body would feel comfortable?  And, remember it doesn't matter what the weather is outside?

Now let's talk a little bit about selfishness. It's such a yucky word. To hear that person is selfish. Ew. Stay away from that person. Right?  Nah, I think that's more reason why we should really work on offering the person encouragement. Seriously, if you're one that really knows that they are selfish, I don't think that's a good thing.

Pastor Greg Laurie's says that selfishness is at the root of all sins. Oh yeah, that is so true! An example would be road rage. The car in front of you is pretty much a crazy driver. You need to be a little faster because you have to get to work. you don't think that maybe that car in front of you, the driver, is contemplating on killing himself, do you? Probably not. Another example would be adultery. It's just because you want to fulfill your selfish human desires.

Okay, let me point out 1 character from the Book of Genesis who appeared to be very kind yet selfish at times as well. I am talking about Abraham. He didn't complain to God about not having a child. He thought about others before himself (Sarah, Lot). He was just a good and faithful man. Yeah, so those are the things that made him appear kind.

Now, how did he appear selfish? Well, he did sleep with another woman so that they could have a child "now."  Though I think Sarah made him do it?  That's a question I'm so trying to figure out. Well, Abraham was selfish because he wanted to have a child so he did whatever to get one. He was doing what was humanly possible in order to get a child. Didn't they know God has the final say?

Sorry to say this guys but our beloved Abraham was also selfish. He was human. We are human. So, deep down inside of us we may be saying or doing something to make us appear selfish!

Let's convert that feeling to kindness!  It's not all about us!

TBC......................

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.
—Philippians 2:3
