Genesis Series Part 68: Wrestled With God

The other day I asked Joe why again was Jacob's name changed to the name Israel.  He said don't I remember the whole wrestling with God thing means Israel. I said no I don't remember. So I asked my Google Assistant to talk about it and surprisingly she knew more than I did. Are you confused yet? LOL Let's Dive In.

I guess there was a time way back in the Old Testament when there was a fight between God and Jacob. I know right. I had so many questions. Like, "So, Jacob saw what God looked like? Why did God want to fight with Jacob?" Joe said with a frustrated voice I don't know maybe it was Jesus or some other human. All I know, Joe said was that Jacob wrestled with God. I think I was annoying Joe with my questions. Understandable, I mean apparently it must have not been in the Bible so how was he supposed to know?

So this is what Wikipedia had to say:

Jacob wrestling with the angel is an episode from Genesis (32:22-32; also referenced in Hosea 12:4). The account includes the renamingf can ofJacob as Israel (etymologized as "contends-with-God"). The "angel" in question is referred to as "man" (אִישׁ) in Genesis, while Hosea references an "angel" (מַלְאָךְ), but the episode is also often referenced as Jacob's "wrestling with God".[1]
In the Genesis narrative, Jacob spent the night alone on a riverside during his journey back to Canaan. He encounters a "man" who proceeds to wrestle with him until daybreak. In the end, Jacob is given the name "Israel" and blessed, while the "man" refuses to give his own name. Jacob then names the place where they wrestled Penuel (פְּנוּאֵל"face of God" or "facing God"[2]).
Alright so, the above stuff Is what Wikipedia had to say. Now let me share with you guys what Sam has to say. Well, first of all let me share with you another thing my husband had to say. He said that Jacob lost when the wrestling match was done. His limb was broken or something I forgot.

So anyways what I'm getting from all of this stuff is this. We should not wrestle with God. Actually don't even think about it. Seriously, because you will always lose. Yep, always.
