Deep Thoughts About Sports

Here I am at Starbucks. After I did my makeup this morning I could not for the life of me close my makeup bag. So, thank you to Anna for zipping my bag! Then I ended up dropping my makeup bag on the floor. Thank you to Jason  for picking it up for me! I pray that you two will be encouraged by my writngs! Enjoy your Monday!

Today I'm going to write about Sports. Most people like sports right? That has always been a Hot Topic right?l

I don't think that God has anything bad to say about sports. I mean it's a leisure activity for some and I believe that God wants us to do things that make us happy. People are either the athlete or the avid fan watcher of sports.

Sports lingo is actually found in the Bible. Words like boxing, running the race in order to receive the prize. Did you all know that?

I am definitely not physically or mentally capable to participate in sports. AKA I'm not athletic. Sometimess my husband will throw a ball at me. What is the normal thing that people do when that happens? Catch it right? Well, that doesn't happen with me. The ball will end up hitting me in the face. It's okay I know he didn't do it on purpose. I certainly hope not.:-)

So, I just enjoy watching. It's fascinating to me to see such people doing outrageous things. Outrageous in a good way! Wow, such talent! That is just what entertains people.

Pause break my water was cool. So, thank you to Tim for getting me hot water. I pray you will be encouraged by my writings.

Back to the subject of sports. Let me ask you guys something. How does
Sports run in your priority of things. In particular, I'm thinking when it comes to God.

If one places Sports ahead of God, I really don't think that is good. Consider this. Starting September, Sunday is football day, I understand. For
me and many others, Sunday is also the day of listening to God's words from a pastor and spending time with God's people in church.

Now my question is do we stay home and watch the football games and miss church? Or, are we going to do what we think the Lord wants us to do? Are we going to be thankful to God for what he provided so we wouldn't miss watching the game not during God's time? I'm thinking YouTube, NFL Sports,Tivo, oh, and we can't forget we can get it on our phones now. There's so many different avenues the Lord has provided for us to take advantage of when it is not the Lord's time. You understand what I'm saying? You agree with what I'm saying?

Just yesterday, Joe and I were able to have the Cubs game on our phone. Sometimes Facebook Live does that. It was such good quality too!

To reiterate, I really do believe that God wants us to enjoy sports. However, just think we have to consider some things when it comes to sports.I'm thinking we can tackle the 4 W's and 1 H. Those are the who, what, when, where, and how.

1. Who exactly are we watching sports with? Is their bad attitude rubbing off on you?
You finding yourself speaking discouraging words of the players? Swearing and cussing a lot? How would you be acting if God was sitting right next to you in front of the TV? Actually, he pretty much is.

2. What exactly are we allowing our eyes to see. That's vague so you can just use your common sense and figure out if you need to be watching what you're watching. You can always turn your face away.

3. Where are you watching sports? I hope we are not utilizing what God has provided like a phone with sports updates, when we are at churh with the family of God.

4. When are you watching sports? I hope we're not utilizing what the Lord has provided during the pastor's sermon. We can watch sports at a later time. Church is God's time. Church is time with God's family of believers.

5. Why are we even watching sports? Simple, it's fun. It's a Leisure activity for some. It's some people's form of entertainment.

In conclusion, Sports is not a bad thing. However, if our priority of sports comes before God, then it can be a bad thing. I challenge you to think deeply about these things. Then really, apply them to your own life. What are you coming up with?

1 Timothy 4:8 (NLT

Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.
