I would guess that the majority of, well everyone, would prefer to be on the receiving end when it came to "gifts or gift giving." There are those select number of people who do love and would prefer giving. Of course, that could be one of their love languages.
One Sunday morning my Pastor showed the congregation that he had a dollar bill in his hand. It was available to anyone who wanted it. All they needed to do was take it out of Pastor Gerry's hands. If they took it, then they would have it. There really wasn't anything they needed to do to get that money. All they had to do was just grab it.
My pastor shared that illustration as a way to show the congregation, that is exactly the meaning of the gift of salvation. God the father had a son who is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was crucified, suffered, and died for all. He rose again and is now alive. He would live in the hearts of those who invite him in!
Do you believe that? If so, that's great! Just like Pastor's example with the dollar bill, if you want it, if you want salvation, then just grab it and accept it. The scripture says in 1 John 5 11-12
And this is the testimony, God has given us eternal life and this life is in his son. He who has the son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life
Let me end with some words from a dear friend of mine. The founder of AMTC (Actors, Models, Talent for Christ- Carey Lewis. She says, " The teachings of God are confirmed in the Bible. But you must know the Bible to know what's real and know what's not." CL and leave you with this question you may ponder about. Maybe we should ask ourselves this. " am I getting my daily fill of what God's applications are for my life? Am I even reading the scriptures, the Holy Bible at all?
Let me end this writing with some words from Pastor Greg Laurie:
You cannot earn salvation. You can only receive it as a gift by faith
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
James 1:22-24
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.
