Power Series Part 90: Power Of Feelings

Play for the Audio Version

I think that both some men and women have a problem dealing with their feelings. I have seen it from other people. I have seen it in myself.

It is so difficult I think to balance your emotions with being obedient to God. You know what I mean? Say for example this. Your blood is boiling! You are about ready to scream your head off! You can't shake evil looking, annoyed, frustrated or angry facial expressions off of your face! What are you bound to do?

Here's my guess. Cussing someone out? Verbally or maybe even physically harshly hurting someone? Murdering someone? Lying? Coveting things or people? I don't know. The list goes on and on. Perhaps, very severe or not that severe but still pretty painful.

See where I'm getting at with this? I told you it is pretty difficult for us Christians to stay obedient to God and always follow His commands when feelings are involved and included.

Let me give another for instance. What about wives needing to be obedient to their husband? Okay, so the obedient thing to do is always follow or submit to the husband. That's what God wants. Now, what if us wives really don't agree with the husband's decisions one time. I am guessing some of the wives' feelings will come out. That may entail anger, bitterness, maybe even tears of sadness. What? You people think balancing feelings and obedience is easy? It probably will end up to really be a messy juggle of both deep emotions and strict obedience.

I think it all started with Adam and Eve. Remember God gave one command and that was not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The serpent enticed Eve by targeting her weak flesh. He made her see that the forbidden fruit was easy on the eyes. Her feelings of curiosity and maybe envy? Maybe, she also wanted to know what was up with knowledge of Good and Evil? Was she feeling sad because God was keeping the secret from her? I have no idea. I wasn't around at that time. I am just letting my mind wander a little bit.

Folks, maybe we shouldn't let our emotions get the best of us. I don't think we should let our emotions interfere with our willingness to follow God and be obedient.

Genesis 3:1-24

Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Matthew 26:41

“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Proverbs 29:11

A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back.

Proverbs 15:18

A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger quiets contention.

Romans 12:2

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect
