DTFS Promise Series Part 25: The Advocate

Play for the Audio Version

Happy Tuesday everyone! I actually began this reading yesterday. So, let me continue with what I have written already. I gather it may not be normal for you to associate the words happy and Monday! And, to that Deep Thought I say this. It doesn't have to be a bad or sad day. You guys are in control so why don't you guys start the day with a good mood? A smile, and just focus on the good things about it being a Monday. Oh I know. How about the Bears win yesterday? That was a pretty sick game last night right? And, it finished with a happy ending! Are you smiling now? Perhaps not, if you're not exactly a Bears fan. Anyway let's dive in!

Continuing on with the Promise Series. Part 25: Promise of the Advocate! In Christianity, The Advocate is most times referred to as the Holy Spirit.

And, please believe me when I say we really need it! When we did, are doing, or are about to do a sin, the aftermath of it is usually we feel bad.

Yep, and that makes total sense! I mean, yes before I got saved if I were to do a sin, yes I think my conscience would make sure to remind me of it. And, I would feel pretty bad.

After I came to know Christ as my Lord and Savior, something more powerful than conscience was was tagging at my heart and keeping me mindful of the sin I just did. And, I believe that was the Holy Spirit! The Advocate!

If I didn't ask for forgiveness, then I needed to ask for forgiveness. And, if I didn't feel really bad I mea really bad for what I just did, then I would want the Holy Spirit to keep reminding me until I saw its true nastiness for what the sin truly is.

Once I was seeing how bad it was, then I would need to do this. And, that would be to repent AKA turn from the sin aka try my best not to repeat the sin.

I'm going to suggest asking God to help you might be a good thing to do. Remember, that is not saying we know what God will do. However oh, it's up to you to not repeat the sin. The prayer is for your flawed human nature to not take full control.

See what I mean?

This special and very much needed in one's life, advocate can be pretty busy! And, isn't that a good thing for us fellow Christians! I see it like this. The more you know about how bad the sin was, then we are more likely to not want to ever repeat it again. The more likely fellow Christian's will want to turn away from their sin. The word of the day is repent!

John 14:26

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

Romans 8:26

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Acts 2:38

And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 6:19

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,

Isaiah 11:2

And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

John 14:15-17

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you

  1. If we listen and don't do the sin, then the HS might not need to work hard.
