of another topic I wanted to address that would fall great with my Promise Series!
Broken promises, not keeping your word, saying that you're going to do something, but then shock the person or not shock the person because you decide to do something else. That's just mean. When 1 is considered a promise-breaker, I don't think it is really a good label to put on someone.
I mean everyone has their own reason of why they do what they do. It should be simple. If you make a promise then just keep it! Otherwise, don't make the promise. Make sure the other party understands. Maybe your answer should be something like, "maybe you will do such and such.... you wouldn't want to make a promise because you were not entirely sure.... I'm sure you understand that right? I don't want to make a promise but then break it." Can one say something like that? Believe me, that definitely sounds better and would end better than breaking a promise.
Let's consider how one would appear if one was at the end of The Stick of a broken promise.
1. To reiterate oh, it's just mean.
2. It doesn't really make your credibility seem worthy.
3. It makes what a child of God is look pretty bad.
4. I think it's disappointing to God.
5. It gives you a bad name. Do you really want to be known as ???, the promise breaker?
That's all that I can think of. Please feel free to leave your thoughts why else it would be bad to have the reputation of being a promise-breaker. Would love to read your thoughts why you guys think being a promise-breaker would be a bad thing. I am sure I forgot stuff
God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?
Numbers 30:2
If a man vows a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.
But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.
Proverbs 19:5
A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes out lies will not escape.
When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it, for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow. It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay.
I will not violate my covenant or alter the word that went forth from my lips.
Proverbs 25:14
Like clouds and wind without rain is a man who boasts of a gift he does not give.
Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.
But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you out.
