Final Meal
I used to not get it. I mean I used to not understand it. I mean I did not understand why I was doing what I was doing.
As Joe once said before, he just did it or else. And, like he said. He did not even know what or else meant. I just thought it meant I would get into trouble with my parents.
When I became a born again Christian believer? That was when I finally understood. That really was when things started to become clear. Amen.
What is Samantha talking about? I am talking about that final meal between Jesus Christ and His disciples. Most people refer to it as the last supper.
Most Filipinos have a painting of it hanging up in the kitchen? Or, other room in the house. Right? Yeah probably. I grew up with one
hanging on the wall in the kitchen at my parent's house. They probably still have it.
Anyway. What are my feelings about communion? Well, I definitely do not believe in transubstantiation.
What?
What is that? That is when you believe that the body of Christ kind of like "morphs" into the bread you eat and the blood of Christ goes into your drink. Well, not literally. I know! That does sound evil!
Pause break! What comes to mind is this. I remember when I was younger there was an apparition in the Philippines. A boy ate the bread and it turned to blood. It was supposed to have been the body of Christ.
I remember feeling so amazed! I remember even trying to convince
Auntie Vickie it was real! She was kind and listened to me being a little kid.
However, I remember feeling like she just didn't believe it. So, I guess I should go back to what I said earlier and say that for some people it is literally.
What I mean is some people will believe it actually is the body and blood of Christ. To reiterate, that sounds ugly satanic to me! Eww!
Years ago, my Aunt was already a born again Christian believer. I was not.
Just sharing this story about the apparition so you won't be fooled.
Maybe, there is someone out there reading this
right now in the same predicament. I want to say it again. Don't get fooled!
Friends, we born again christians acknowledge and celebrate the communion service to be reminded of what Jesus did for us!
My church meets together for a communion service with crackers and grape juice to remember what Jesus did. Once again the bread and grape juice act as symbols of Jesus' being crucified on the cross! For that we are so thankful!
God just wants us to never forget what he did. That is why we have communion!
We have a communion service once a month.
So, the point is not for people to focus on the delicious tasting grape juice. Or, think about what a good idea it is to eat crackers or bread. Then, what is the point you ask.
The communion service is such a solemn and opertune time. This is a time for born again christians to examine themselves. To ask God for forgiveness if they haven't already done so. This is a time of remembrance of what Christ did for us. Time to tell him again thank you!
Let me end with this story. I remember there was one time x we were unable to go to church. We were able to watch our church service on TV. Maybe this was the time of Covid?
Anyhow. Joe and I watched service on the TV. And, I was drinking ice tea. Joe was drinking Arizona iced green tea. And, we both broke off a piece
of our Ensaymada ( Filipino sweetened bread with cheese on top).
See guys it doesn't always have to be bread or crackers or grape juice or wine. It is about focusing on the reason you are even participating in this final meal celebration!
John 6:53-58
So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. ...
1 Corinthians 11:26
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
1 Corinthians 11:24-27
And when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord.
Luke 22:19-20
And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.
Corinthians 11:28
Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup
